Summary:
Elf is about a grown man who thinks he is an elf. Thirty years before, "Buddy" (Will Ferrel) was just an ordinary orphan being put to bed on an ordinary Christmas Eve. But then, when everyone else is asleep, little Buddy is still awake when Santa Clause (Edward Asner) jumps dow the chimney. Curious as he is, he climbs out of bed and hides in Santa's sac. Not knowing a thing, Santa brings Buddy with him all the way to the North Pole. When Santa and all the elves find out that a human baby has come with Santa from New York to the North Pole, Papa Elf (Bob Newhart) is left in charge looking after him. He spends his whole life living like an elf until, one day, after overhearing a converstion two real elves were having, he decides to go back to live in New York and learn about his real father and hopes to go live with him and his family. Once he has said goodbye to all his friends from the North Pole, he lands in the dirty streets of New York City. There he meets his horrible father (James Caan), his love of his life (Zooey Deschanel) and has to learn all the ways of a normal person.
